There is an irreducible gap between being and appearing. Each image is frozen, every object still. They are simulacrum; replicas twisted out of reality. And yet, the hardened plaster was once viscous, the knit once disparate threads, and the coiled box-spring once a bed. They are heavy with feelings and memories.

Perhaps we have become too sentimental. Perhaps we have only been talking to ourselves while they hang, lean and sit; silent, removed. And yet, if we tilt the angle of our senses to lower frequencies, we will see them sparkling with the vibrancy of matter, and the twistedness of existence.

Decoy presents five Seattle-based artists of differing international backgrounds whose practices emphasize the material properties of images and objects through various strategies of presentation and arrangement.
